Full Mouth Reconstruction Steps

Dentistry at its Most Advanced.

A full mouth reconstruction combines the science of neuromuscular dentistry with the artistry of cosmetic dentistry.

The steps involved:

Listen- Dr. Mongalo takes the time to understand your problem, anxieties, and expectations.

Evaluate- His diagnosis is based on a thorough exam and x-rays. Precision diagnostic modeling helps determine the best treatments. It also provides a precise representation of how your new teeth will be sized, shaped and shaded. You’ll know in advance what your new mouth will look like.

Determine the Cause- Patients needing reconstructive dentistry often have significant loss of tooth enamel. The problem can have a mechanical cause or a chemical cause or both. By finding the cause, Dr. Mongalo can help make sure it never happens again.

Alleviate the Pain- If you’re suffering pains or headaches, Dr. Mongalo will determine if your bite is contributing to your symptoms. He can create a temporary orthodontic to correct your bite and alleviate your pain. If the pain disappears, He will recommend full mouth reconstruction to create and maintain your optimal bite permanently.

Select the Treatment- Dr. Mongalo will discuss your treatment options. And help you choose a course. You’ll be involved in every aspect of the treatment process.

Explain the Procedures- Once a decision is made, you will receive a plan detailing your treatment. Dr. Mongalo will fully explain all the steps necessary in your full mouth reconstruction. Full mouth reconstruction does not necessarily mean surgery. It can be non-surgical. In some cases, Dr. Mongalo can get the upper and lower jaws in proper alignment by removing decay; repairing chipped, weakened, and broken teeth; and then using veneers, crowns and bridges.

Position the Jaws- This first step involves neuromuscular dentistry which uses this relaxed position of the head and neck muscles to perfectly position the jaw. This will increase the effectiveness and longevity of your reconstructive dentistry.

A sophisticated computer program interprets the sounds of your chewing muscles and the movements of your jaw. This enables Dr. Mongalo to find the most relaxed position for the jaw and combined with specialized X-ray helps determine the best bite for comfort and looks.

Perform any Extractions- If any extractions are needed, Dr, Mongalo will perform those first.

Establish a Healthy Foundation- Before reconstruction begins, Doctor Mongalo also determines whether there’s a healthy foundation of gums and bone. If not, tissue grafts may be needed. Platelet rich plasma can be used to accelerate tissue replacement and growth.

Perform the Procedures- Dr. Mongalo performs the full mouth reconstruction with a combination of procedures, such as tooth bonding, porcelain dental veneers and dental implants.

Tooth Bonding.

Tooth Bonding- In tooth bonding, a composite resin is applied to the each tooth.

Select the Shade- Dr. Mongalo will help you select the exact shade to match the natural color of your teeth.

Prepare your Teeth- He’ll prepare your teeth for treatment by roughening and contouring the surfaces. Then, he’ll apply a conditioning solution and a dental bonding agent that combine to act as a strong adhesive to ensure the composite stays put.

Shape the Material- The resin is like putty so Dr. Mongalo can sculpt and shape it to cover damaged areas or to fill in gaps. Several layers may be necessary to achieve the best results.

Cure the Material- To harden the material, a high-intensity light or a chemical may be used.

Polish the Material- Finally, Dr. Mongalo will smooth and polish your tooth to give it an even, natural contour.

In just one visit to the office in Miami, tooth bonding’s complete. The length of the visit will depend on the condition of your teeth and how much repair work you need.

Porcelain Dental Veneers

Porcelain Dental Veneers- Porcelain dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that fit over damaged, discolored, or misshapen teeth. Porcelain is an extremely durable material with a color, translucence and texture that is similar to tooth enamel. It is not susceptible to decay and resists staining while maintaining a natural appearance. Veneers can effectively close gaps, lengthen and reshape teeth; repair chipped, broken, or misshapen teeth, and cover stains and discolorations.

The steps involved:

Create A Model- Using the photos and imaging software, Doctor Mongalo creates an exact model of your new smile. This is the foundation of your trial smile.

Prepare your Teeth- At your first appointment, your teeth will be roughened and shaped to remove part of the enamel. This provides a better surface for bonding and allows room for the thin porcelain shell.

Take Impressions- After shaping, Dr. Mongalo will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create the porcelain veneers that fit your teeth.

Shade Selection- You and the doctor will select the right colored porcelains to create your new teeth.

The Trial Smile- Afterwards, he’ll create beautiful, natural looking temporary veneers, he calls a trial smile. Take it for a test drive. Evaluate it for color, shape, size and appearance.

Inspect the Results- At your next appointment, Dr. Mongalo will test your veneers to make sure that they fit properly, carefully analyze the bite for comfort and verify they are the correct size and color. And make any changes to ensure you are totally happy. If needed, more shaping or trimming of the veneers can be done before the final fitting.

Fitting Session- Before your veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned. Clean teeth and healthy gums are necessary in order for bonding to be successful.

Porcelain dental veneers usually require at least two appointments to complete. The length of each appointment depends on the condition of your teeth and on how many veneers you are having done. The procedure is performed with a local anesthetic and it’s relatively pain-free.

Having porcelain veneers or dental crowns placed means there will always need to be a porcelain veneer or dental crown on the tooth. So, if a crown or veneer comes off, breaks, or deteriorates, another crown or veneer will need to be made.

Despite their dramatic improvements, reconstructions with dental bonding or porcelain veneers are not surgery. They’re a minimally invasive cosmetic dental procedure.

Dental implants

Dental implants- Dental implants are titanium anchors, which act as tooth roots. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implant. The implants provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look and feel natural.
Your new bite is incredible stable. You can chew and eat the foods you want.

All implants are metal reinforced with platinum attachments. Contact is metal on metal, so your new teeth won’t fracture with everyday wear and tear.

Implants can also improve your appearance - restoring lost lip support and minimizing wrinkles. By preserving your facial structure, they help prevent the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

The steps involved:

Test- Doctor Mongalo may have you wear prototypes to determine the degree of facial support you need and know exactly what you require to have a beautiful smile. Then he’ll test them for fit, bite and comfort.

Confirm- Using the results from the first test, he will construct a duplicate of the protoype that satisfies your needs and test it again.

Scan- Dr. Mongalo will take a complete scan of the your jaw with the duplicate in place using a low-radiation CAT scan. After your scan, a second scan will be performed on the duplicate alone.

Create A Model- Files from the CAT scans will be converted into a three-dimensional image of your jaw and denture.

Perform the Procedure On The Model- Dr. Mongalo performs virtual surgery on the 3D image and determines exactly where the dental implants should go. There’s no guesswork, no exploratory surgery. Every step of your dental implant procedure is done first on a three dimensional model of your jaw.

Once he’s satisfied with the results, Dr. Mongalo will transmit your surgical plan to a robotics facility.

Build your Surgical Guide- Computer-guided robots construct a surgical guide that fits in your mouth. The guide shows exactly where your implants will go.

Create your New Teeth- Using the surgical guide and the 3D models of your jaws, your new teeth are created in the laboratory.

Inspect the results- Dr. Mongalo examines the size, shape and color of the teeth to make sure everything is perfect before he schedules your procedure.

Perform your Surgery- The dental implants and teeth are installed with the aid of the surgical guide. The procedure requires no incisions and no sutures. Total time: usually less than sixty minutes.

All implants are metal reinforced with platinum attachments. Contact is metal on metal, so your new teeth won’t fracture with everyday wear and tear.

Dr. Mongalo normally uses local anesthesia. If you prefer, our board certified anesthesiologist can enable you to wake up with a beautiful new smile.

As with all surgeries, you may experience tenderness, mild swelling or slight bruising. Ice packs and standard doses of pain reliever should allow you to be quite comfortable through this brief healing period.

Change Your Life! You can have a comfortable, functional, beautiful smile.
